Driving in Asia

The main reason for the development of DriverAbroad.com was the lack of a single resource providing all the driving advice and information you’ll need to plan a self drive trip Abroad .The information provided on the site was gathered via research initially in 2011/12 and though I try and keep it updated as much as possible, its not my full time job, and in a rapidly changing world, situations will change meaning info provided may be out of date. Therefore please use the site as an approximate guide, and in conjunction with other resources in order to form your view on driving conditions, roads etc. –

The information on the links below cover driving in every country within Asia. Obviously, Asia covers a huge geographical area and, on this site, encompasses all nations and islands from Japan in the East to the countries bordering the Caspian sea.

Many of the countries in Asia can be highly challenging self drive destinations, but as long as you accept that you aren’t going to be able to drive exactly as you do in more developed Western nations, and always expect the unexpected, Asia provides some fantastic opportunites to get off the beaten track under your own steam.

In many countries, especially in the Indian sub-continent, renting a self drive car isn’t the ‘norm’. You may find that its actually cheaper to rent a car with a driver and some ‘car rental’ companies only hire cars with a driver. The pages below cover companies where I believe self drive is possible, to avoid the dead-ends you invariably encounter via Google searches for Car Rental in the region.
