Brunei Driving Advice and Car Hire Info

Driving In Brunei
Brunei is a small country with a limited but efficient road system. Most of the locals travel by boat to and from the many water villages that surround the capital Bandar Seri Begawan . Theres little traffic compared to other Asian capitals and navigation is easy – for Asia, its a relatively stress free driving abroad experience. Roads are in good condition and some highways are toll roads. One potential issue is parking as locals who live in the water villages who have a car all park in town close to the boat docks. Its therefore probably worth getting a hotel with parking if you intend to rent a car. Also note that if bringing a car into Brunei from other parts of Borneo that non -Brunei registered vehicles can only purchase motor fuel at 10 designated filling stations throughout the country, to a maximum of 250 litres. Filling a foreign car is more expensive as the purchase price does not include a government subsidy. If you’re involved in a road accident as a driver, you should not leave the scene or move the vehicle until the police have attended.   You can drive in Brunei using the licene of most countries for up to 3 months.
